The Perfect Yogurt Strawberry Smoothie
Smoothies have come a long way. No longer just considered a “healthy milkshake” smoothies can step in for any meal of the day, well beyond breakfast for a protein packed snack after a solid workout or even just a light evening meal on a hot summer night.
Strawberry smoothies are one of many “classic” yogurt-based smoothies that we turn to year round at Yomee. While strawberry season may feel all too short, the secret to fantastic strawberry smoothies any time of year is frozen berries: the consistency and quality is typically high, if not higher, than a lot of fresh fruit on the market. Additionally, frozen fruit helps create a thick and refreshing texture that’s a hit with adults and kids alike. A pinch of cardamom adds a special kick, and while we find it plenty sweet with the addition of a little frozen banana, feel free to drizzle of your favorite all natural sweetener to taste.
And of course, making it your own homemade, freshly prepared yogurt with Yomee will create a uniquely delicious smoothie you cannot buy anywhere! For best results use plain (not thick Greek style) yogurt.
Fresh Yogurt Strawberry Smoothie
To freeze bananas, peel, store in zip top plastic bags, and freeze overnight. Remove and slice off pieces as needed!
10 ounces homemade fresh plain yogurt
1/2 cup frozen strawberries, sliced
1/2 cup sliced, peeled frozen bananas
A drizzle of maple syrup or agave nectar, for additional sweetness
Pinch of cardamom
Blend all of the ingredients in a blender until perfectly smooth and serve immediately. If a thinner consistency is desired, blend with a splash of almond milk or milk of your choice.
